IHF 2024 - Lecture by Coline Periano: Philosophical indicators, an architecture of care
At the 64th Journées d'Études et de Formations des IHF (IHF Study and Training Days) at the Palais des Congrès in Tours, Coline Periano, a doctoral student in the philosophy of medicine at ENS PSL and research fellow at the Michel Rémon & Associés studio, presented her approach to the architecture of care, based on six philosophical indicators.
The Michel Rémon & Associés architecture studio has adopted six philosophical indicators to support its thinking on spaces for care and spaces that provide care. These six indicators are hospitality, (in)visibility, porosity, opportunity, balance and meaning. They are the result of listening to and analysing the stories of 30 chronically ill patients. They provide a fresh approach to the content of architectural quality in hospitals. Our aim is to show that care takes concrete form in a specific environment that facilitates medical techniques and reinforces the attempts of those being cared for to lead happy, serene and stimulating lives.
