IHF 2024 - Lecture by Michel Rémon: ‘Move along, there's nothing to see'
At the 64th Journées d'Études et de Formations des IHF at the Palais des Congrès in Tours, Michel Rémon, architect and founder of the Michel Rémon & Associés studio, gave a talk on the issue of galleries in hospitals:
The lecture was entitled ‘Move along, there's nothing to see’.
The architectural composition of a hospital layout has changed radically since the 19th century. So much so that the very notion of Architecture seems to have deserted ‘Hospital Architecture’. The logic of flows has extended its hold over the composition of our hospital plans. The SDO/SU ratio has become the main qualitative criterion. There are no more ‘galleries’, just ‘corridors’ that weave their way between the ‘useful surfaces’. So the question remains: why are there no more galleries in our hospitals?
